Riding the emotional waves

Most of us have already experienced at least a few times in our life feeling overwhelmed by emotion. I'm talking about these difficult moments, when our resources seem unable to relieve us. Are we capable of riding these emotional waves without "touching bottom"? And if yes, how?

Riding our emotional waves is somehow similar to surfing or snowboarding. The same principles are applied. Let the gravity do the heavy work, resist as less as possible. Accommodate the wave, the slope. Be alert, estimate the size of the wave, position yourself in the best spot possible and for the rest, just be cool!

When negative thoughts start accumulating, we can see it for what it is. It's like a storm which is approaching. We see the dark clouds, we get agitated and still we don't know what to do not to get soaked. I would say, stay inside. Literally, stay inside, be aware of how human nature is. The universe works based on basic natural rules. Accumulation of clouds results to rain. Accumulation of negative thoughts results to emotional crisis. After the storm, the sun will shine again. After the emotional crisis, balance and joy will appear.

Western culture is based mostly on our mental, intellectual capacity. We disregard, as less important, a big part of us, our feelings, our human awareness, sensibility. We need to feel, not only to think. Facing an emotional storm, our mental is almost in panic, it cannot "control" the situation. It starts analyzing the data, trying to get us out of it. In reality, our mind needs to grow quiet and simply to accept the facts. It is not so bad, being in emotional crisis from time to time. It's ok. Let the cathartic power of it wash away all the emotional residues. After this experience, everything becomes more real, our lives become more "alive" and our choices more mature.

Feel, be alive!
