Spanish can be the most romantic language of all (even more so than French!). Its richness of vocabulary, its literary history and even just they way it sounds make it an ideal language to learn and romantic phrases in Spanish are a great way to do so. In Latin culture in general, people (especially men) are fairly quick to drop a romantic pick up line to show they’re attracted to you. So better be ready when someone approaches you saying, “¡qué linda eres!” (how lovely you are!) if you’re a woman, or “¡qué lindo eres!” for guys. “Tienes unos ojos encantadores” (“you have lovely eyes”) or “tienes una sonrisa maravillosa” (you have a wonderful smile) are also classic romantic phrases in Spanish that work. If you want to take it a little bit further, “Me vuelves loco” would be the equivalent to “you drive me crazy” (remember that when words end in “o” are masculine and those ending in “a” are generally feminine)
Many appreciate a direct approach as well. You can try “me gustas mucho” (“I like you a lot”); it is simple and works for all genders, and “eres muy sexy” (“you are very sexy”) is a bit more edgy but effective nonetheless. “¡Qué bueno(a) estás!” (“You’re so hot”) is a very informal way to express attraction, but beware: the most conservative may think this is a little bit too much to start with and softer approach may come in handy first!
If you want to move the subject of conversation away from physical attraction and into the realm of true romance, some nice phrases would be, “Desde que te conocí no he dejado de pensar en ti” (“Ever since I met you, I haven’t stopped thinking about you”, or “Te echo de menos” or “te extraño” (both meaning, “I miss you”) and “pienso en ti todo el tiempo” (“I think about you all the time”). These truly romantic phrases will definitely elicit a positive response.
The great thing about romantic phrases in Spanish is that there is always a way to bump it up a notch. Throw the “L” word in and you have a world of possibilities:
“Te quiero” – I love you
“Te amo” – I love you (much more passionate)
“Te adoro”- I adore you
“Te amo con toda mi alma” – I love you with my soul
“Estoy enamorado(a) de ti” - I’m in love with you
“No puedo vivir sin ti” - I can’t live without you
“Eres el amor de mi vida” – You are the love of my life
“Fue amor a primera vista” or “Fue un verdadero flechazo” – It was true love at first sight (“flecha” means arrow, so think Cupid aiming at you!)
“Cada día te quiero más que ayer pero menos que mañana” - Everyday I love you more than yesterday, but less than tomorrow
These romantic phrases are just the beginning. The beauty of the Spanish language allows for many more combinations and subtlety. It is definately the Language of Passion.
