San Francisco Peaks The San Francisco Peaks are located in northern Arizona in the Coconino National Forest. The peaks are just north of Flagstaff, Arizona. Flagstaff, Arizona has an elevation of 7,000 feet, while the Peaks are a whopping 13,000 ft. You can hike clear to the top of the Peaks in the summer time. Don't even attempt it in the winter. You need to be in good shape to hike this mountain. The trail starts near the ski lodge. The start of the hike leads you through scenic groves of Aspen trees. As the elevation changes so does the terrain. Huge pine trees and other forest vegetation are abundant. The last part of the hike is hiking over huge stones and boulders. The high altitude does bother some people; especially desert dwellers. It is something an outdoors person should attempt. Usually tourists lodge in Flagstaff on there way to the Grand Canyon. You could put this on your list of things to do if you travel to northern Arizona. I have taken this hike and it was a wonderful experience.
