First things first - Know your keywords.
Where to go to get what you need.
I often use the free service located at: www.submitexpress.com; Free Tools; Keyword Suggestion Tool. If you are selling "blue click pens with invisible ink", you might already know your keywords. However, there could be more that you are missing. Be sure to check for alternative keywords and key phrases. Keep your list current.
Second things second - Your target market.
Who will buy your products or come to your office/store? These are the folks you need to be speaking to, your potential customers/clients.
Words mean more than images on a website.
Of course you should have images of your products or images that represent your services. But these do not bring buyers to your website. Only the words bring customers to your doorstep.
Writing content for the web is different than writing content for just about anything else. Is this true? Yes and no. I read this all the time: "You have to be a writer, copywriter or have obtained solid marketing skills to write good or great web content." I think this may be true in many cases, but then as a copywriter, it comes easier for me than say a little old lady crocheting potholders and selling them on the web.
Your web content must be the best it can be.
• Customer friendly; and possibly mildly interesting, funny, etc.
• Search Engine friendly; using keywords predominately.
• Readability Factors: Do you even know what these are?
Professionals, i.e.: doctors, lawyers, CEO's hire people to do the job they know they cannot do. Why is it so hard for Joe Blow to realize that investing money in their business will garner more profits for them in the long run?
How good a writer are you?
We are talking ROI (return on investment) and the future of your profits here. Weaving words is a skill not everyone has. If it was, everybody out there could write a best selling novel and be rich, right now.
Investing in yourself means coughing up the dollars to be the best that YOU can be. Not because I am a copywriter, but because it is the smart thing to do, I highly recommend that if you need top organic search engine results; customers who stay and buy; readers and not just content scanners; that you hire an SEO copywriter.
If however, you are selling "blue click pens with invisible ink" you may be able to sell this yourself, if there is a market for that.
