SEO Tip of the Day: Content is King

The old saying in real estate is “location, location, location”. In Internet Marketing, it’s “content, content, content”. So, how can you get content without consuming every last waking moment? Here are some tips to help you:

Tip#1: Sign up for newsletters and e-zines about your topic and reprint those articles

Many newsletter and e-zine writers allow you to reprint their articles, provided you keep all the copyright info, and links in place and not take credit for the writing. Reprint is not reselling, so you usually can only use the articles, not sell them, but that’s the mission we’re on this week anyway, so that ‘s ok.

To find articles, google it! Go to www.Google.com and search for articles. As your search terms, you can use free articles, health articles, free newsletters, article directories, etc. Use what fits for your topic. You will find a motherload of great stuff out there and most have free reprints.

Every writer has a different policy but most are quite cooperative. For example, I allow for reprint but I require that my resource box be published too, so people will know about me and what I do. Most others state that you can reprint without further contact and have other particular requirements. Still, those requests are easy and you don't have to write anything to get great content. How does it get better than that?

Even if the writer doesn’t post that you have reprint rights, just send them an email and ask for permission. Many will agree and most appreciate you sending them a link to where you’ve posted the article. What better way to network with a fellow marketer, right? You never know where that could lead!

Be sure to follow the writer’s instructions carefully. Publication copyright is very important to respect. There is no reason to spoil a relationship with a great source of content because you are sloppy with their work. Most of these articles are very well written, so leave them just like they are written and reprint them how you are told to.

Note: It’s better to actually post the articles on your site rather than link to the writer’s website. This increases the content on your site and avoids an outbound link, which is the worst kind of link to have for search engine ranking. If a writer doesn’t want you to post to your website without linking, either request and obtain a reciprocal link (you to them and them to you) or find someone else’s material to use.

Tip #2: Use Public Domain information

A copyright, which is a legal ownership designation, lasts for a limited number of years and after that, unless the copyright is re-filed properly, the material usually falls into the “public domain”. Experts in the public domain field estimate as much as 85% of the material that could have been re-filed is not.

The US government, with citizens’ tax dollars, has created many websites that are packed full of public domain information. That information is very well written, usually by the top experts available, and you have the right to use that information.

Not everything on these public domain sites are without copyright, so you need to be careful. There are some great programs that can help you that are very affordable. At the end of this article, you will find my recommendation from one of my favorite gurus to help you get started.

Other public domain sources are old writings, old music, and old pictures. You can take a great old publication and use information out of it for any purpose whatsoever. You can even use that information to create a product to sell. Isn't that incredible?

To find out more about an affordable way to add public domain information to your site, I highly recommend Yanik Silver's software product. It's less than $50 if you buy the downloadable version and it's packed full of great info and tools on how to create lots of content for your site quickly and easily. Tip #3: Rent a blogger

Blogging is an increasingly popular technique for creating current content for websites. Blogging, (short for “weblog”) started out essentially as a journal style of communication and as sociopolitical commentary. Many blogs are much like a magazine or newspaper editorial pages and they have caught on like wildfire. To meet the growing need, many sites now offer bloggers for hire.

Again, as I noted in tip #1, it’s best when content is on your site rather than a link out, and the same applies for blogs. However, satisfying your site visitors with the information they are seeking is an essential component to return visits and will make a difference in the traffic that frequents your website.

Another thing that blogs do is add dynamic content to your website. When I say dynamic, I don't mean interesting and passionate, although your blog should be those things. What I mean is changing. Search spiders love dynamic content and adding new info to your page will cause you to be visited more often. This should lead to higher ranking and more traffic.

Whenever possible, it’s ok to outsource. Outsourcing is hiring a 3rd party to do a task and it’s not as hard or expensive as it may sound at first. For a directory of possible blogs to link to, try www.blogwise.com. For more information about renting a blogger, go to google.com and type in blogger for hire, hire a blogger, freelance blogger, or similar terms. Keep in mind that you may know someone locally who would be willing to be your writer who love the opportunity to practice their craft. Get creative and get content!.
