Sophocles

Sophocles was a Greek tragic playwright who lived in Athens, Greece from c. 495 to 405 BC. His most famous plays are the Oedipus Trilogy: Antigone, Oedipus Rex, Oedipus at Colonus. His chief rival in dramatic competitions was Euripides. Like most Athenian aristicrats, Sophocles was elected and served in several government positions, including strategos, a military general.

For sound, respected English translations of Sophocles, I recommend those by Robert Fagles or Richmond Lattimore, but many others are available. I include links to online translations below which look good at first glance, but I haven't checked them against the Greek.
