Steak pie heaven

Yesterday my sweet wife prepared a simply marvellous steak pie for Sunday lunch. It was just gorgeous with some peas and chips and a fresh bottle of real ale to accompany this superb taste sensation. I often wonder why English cuisine gets such a bad rep. A Sunday lunch is usually a veritable feast for the senses; real man’s food as well, and is always a thoroughly enjoyable occasion.

And then there are the breakfasts where the options are seemingly endless. I think it was Victor Hugo who once visited England and afterwards said that ‘if you want to eat decent meals in England you’ll have to eat breakfast three times a day’. But then he was a Frenchman and French cuisine has carved out a lofty niche for itself that very few national culinary idioms can aspire to ever enter. For what it’s worth.

But I love my food here in Blighty. Fish and chips, steak and ale pie, roast beef, bacon and eggs, sausages; it’s just good plump food. Of course, I do have to keep excercising to a degree in a more or less vain attempt to stave off the dreaded obesity. But you can’t have everything. Right?
