Stevia, Oatmeal and Fruit

Do you like oatmeal? I love it! And it's really good for you. Have you ever heard of stevia? Stevia is a plant that is very sweet. It is used in many countries other than the USA as a sweetener. The plant is dried and pulverized into a powder or it can be concentrated as a liquid. It can be purchased in the USA at most health food stores where natural foods are sold.

I find stevia particuarly good in oatmeal. It is very sweet. It tastes best when milk and fruit are added to the oatmeal. My personal favorite is raisins, bananas and blueberries. Yummy! How much stevia should you add? Very little! It is about 100 times stronger than sugar. Better start off slow and add more as needed. You'll quickly come to know just how much you need. Most of the powdered forms will come with a very small scoop that works well. (see picture below) This scoop is approximately half the size of a 1/16 Tbsp measuring spoon!

Remember, stevia is all natural! It does have a little bit of an aftertaste, and I'm not sure what other uses it might be good in (other than just fresh berries) but when used with fruit in oatmeal it's absolutely delicious and you will know you are eating healthy and avoiding sugar! I eat it almost daily and I reccomend it to everyone who likes oatmeal. Give Stevia a try sometime.
