Studies Bulster Red Meat As Carcinogenic

Two new studies from Chicago suggest a strong link between cancer and red meat. The studies have been published in the American Medical Association’s Wednesday Journal. Many studies beforehand have developed strong relationships between diet and cancer. The biggest relationship, more than anything else, was that red meat is evident in diets of people with cancer.

In the newest study by the American Cancer Association, 148,610 people ageing 63 as an average had their meat intake analyzed in 1982 and again in 1992. People with a higher meat intake had a 40 percent more likely chance of suffering lower colon or rectal cancer than people with a lower meat intake. In defining a “high-meat intake”, researchers came to 3 ounces daily as a high for men, while 2 ounces daily for women. Processed meats like bologna and bacon also seemed to be an even higher risk than normal red meats.

A study in Europe involving 285,526 women found that vegetable and fruit consumption did nothing to lessen the risk of cancer. Many of these studies have been carried out, but always with seemingly mixed results. Even with all these mixed results, some experts still say that fruit-intense diets are not ruled out as cancer reducers.

Bottom line: Just don't eat the bloody stuff!
