Super Bad
Superbad You knew these kids in high school. You did. The socially inept kids who talked like sailors and went out of their way to impress pretty girls because they thought one day-one day-they might be cool. And while this evolution into popularity rarely happened, and you were embarrassed for those kids, they seem to have done alright. Hey, they got their own movie! Superbad is the film tribute to teen awkwardness. Seth and Evan (named for film writers, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg) give us a day in their lives, being picked on, looking for the hot parties, desperately trying to make good on their promise to provide alcohol to their classmates at said hot party, and generally just trying to survive the high school machine. The film is an over the top, out of proportion take on what high school is really like, but that’s sort of the point. There’s the friend who has “McLovin” printed as his name on his fake ID and then proceeds to spend a day with two seemingly dimwitted police officers; the crashing of a hardcore party in pursuit of alcohol; and an uncomfortably emotional scene involving the rekindling of Seth and Evans friendship. And it’s all peppered with as many “F” words as humanly possible. Superbad won a Chicago Film Critics Award for Most Promising Performer (Michael Cera) and was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Choice Summer Movie: Comedy or Musical.
