Swastika The swastika has been a religious symbol for Indian Jains and Hindus for millenia. It was appropriated by a genocidal political movement of the twentieth century and became associated in the minds of many people all over the world with that 20th century movement, the Nazis. In India to this day, swastikas can be found all over the place, and the name Swastik is frequently found attached to ordinary businesses. Not only is the swastika not associated with Nazis in the Indian mind, there are active political groups which want to re-appropriate the symbol to India and let the world know of its ancient religious and peaceful roots.
