Here is part twelve in a series about how to drive traffic to your site. In this twelfth part, I want to talk about using classified ad sites such as Craigslist and USFreeAds. Let’s talk about Craigslist first. Craigslist started out as a local directory and has exploded into a massive classified ad giant! Chew on this: it is estimated that they receive approximately 8 billion page views a month!! Want some of that pie? I know I do! While it is free to post ads in Craigslist, you do have to be very cautious when doing so. Users are very quick to report spam. Here are some hints in using Craigslist effectively:
1) Find and post in appropriate categories only.
2) Don’t spam.
3) Don’t try and SELL in the ads. Instead, use freebies to collect names and emails.
4) Use Gmail for your email account.
5) Do not post many items at one time. Spread it out.
Another free classified ad system is USFreeAds. They are a lot more open to selling and Google seems to love their ads. UAFreeAds has several options to choose from: Free, Gold, and Premium. I would suggest, though, that you seriously consider the Premium account – because you can have an unlimited number of ads running at one time.
Unlike Craigslist, I would set up ads that both sell in the ad and ads that help drive traffic to your main site.
There are other sites like these two that I would consider trying, such as Kijiji and ClassifiedAds.Com
Overall, the biggest benefit is that they are either free or very inexpensive and can drive traffic to your site!
Best wishes using them!!
