Transforming the Political Map - Hawai'i Style

Konrad Ng is Barack Obama's brother-in-law.

“They said that this day would never come.” The Obama campaign has accomplished what the cynics and the Washington establishment thought would be impossible. We started with modest resources and recognition. We began with a call to change our politics, knowing that business as usual just won’t do. We responded to criticism with steady principles and an open invitation to solve the issues together. We relied on small donations from everyday American people and said no to special interest groups and federal lobbyists. We built a national campaign from the ground-up, riding on the perseverance of a diverse coalition of staff and volunteers to energize Democrats, win in Red States and attract Independents.

Over the last 7 days, voters in Louisiana, Nebraska, Washington, US Virgin Islands, Virginia, Maryland and DC overwhelmingly stood with Barack. Since Jan. 3, 2008, Barack has won 23 of 34 primaries and caucuses with New Mexico still undeclared. Across the nation, Barack has shown that he can win across age, region, gender, race and class.

The political map is being transformed and Hawai‘i, it’s our turn.

Despite Barack’s local ties, the race is competitive. We need help with spreading Barack’s message in our community and beyond - phone, email, canvass, write, talk story, donate - we need a good ground game to get out the caucus. Slowly and steadily, one family member, friend, neighbor, co-worker and voter at a time, we can fulfill the promise of this campaign. Let’s make history at the Hawai‘i caucus on Feb. 19, 2008.
