Visit New Zealand - the beautiful Wairarapa (2)...
The beautiful Wairarapa: Getting there. The Wairarapa can be easily reached by rail or car. The train ride is a scenic delight, incorporating the Rimutaka tunnel. Trains leave Wellington regularly and can be met at the Featherston Railway Station by pre-booked tour operators and buses. Road options include Tranzit Coach Tours and Wairarapa Coachlines. By car, take State Highway 2 out of Wellington, stay on the road over the Rimutaka hills and continue through Featherston, Greytown, Carterton and on to the main town in the area, Masterton. You'll love the Wairarapa.
