VOIP (Voice over internet protocol) Voip is a protocol that is used for transmitting voice over the internet. It carries signals as digital audio encaptulated in a data packet. Uses: 1. Conference calling over the internet 2. Transmitting more that one telephone call over a broadband connection 3. Cheap international calls Handsets: Today there are a great variety of handsets available from leading manufacturers that work with the most common voip software. Software: There are many software packages (commercial and free) available to voip users. The most common is probably skype which is a free package.
