Those of us who live in Canada and United States have created a Monster. Many (but not all) of us make very large wages compared to the rest of the world. The jobs, especially in the auto industry have been widespread and employed many.
So what did many of us do?
We did not support our own workers but bought products from other countries instead.
Now we wonder why our factories are laying off thousands.
The same applies with all other products. It is almost impossible to buy things made in North America.
I went shopping last week with a mindset to buy our products but came home with articles labeled Pakistan, Bangladesh, and of course China. These weren't necessarily the cheapest products, just what was available.
What ever happened to the labels we saw years ago that said "Made in Canada" and had a Maple Leaf?
What ever happened to the labels we saw years ago that said "Made in The U.S.A." and had a flag?
We can't have it both ways. If we want jobs and good wages we have to buy our own products.
The same applies to foods. Ask the farmers who can't sell their produce like Apples because they can be imported cheaper from other countries.
Let's start to think when we shop.
