Wedding Favors 101 - Your Guide to Fabulous Favors
How to decide what to give and are favors really necessary? Many wedding planning and bridal magazines will tell you that wedding favors are not necessary, however be forewarned that many of your guests will be looking out for them. Favors have become an important and popular wedding tradition for your guests. Having said that, your wedding favors need not be expensive or extravagant. There are all kinds of options when it comes to providing your guests with favors. Favors can also do double-duty at your wedding, for example a small, pretty photo frame or photo album can double as your place cards – simply print up decorative cards with your guest’s name and table number, then slip into the frame. When the wedding is over, your guests have a take-away to serve as a reminder of the day that is functional for them. Another idea is to have your favors serve as the centerpiece of your reception tables. Use unique bowls, trays or pedestal serving dishes to stack and display your favors. Also, consider a green favor by the way of tiny potted flowers or plants that can be clustered in the center of your tables. Functional favors are great ideas as well. Your guests will appreciate receiving something they can take home and actually use. Ideas in this category are reusable candle holders, coasters, cheese spreaders, coffee scoops or wine stoppers. Edible favors are gaining in popularity. Present your guests with gourmet or unusual candy, mints, chocolates, cookies or other snacks inside decorative packaging. Perhaps there is a particular item that your local area is known for that would make a delightful gift such as maple syrup or sugar, honey, salt water taffy, fudge etc. or candy shaped in symbols for your area such as cactus candy, maple leaves, lobsters etc. If you live in a grape growing region, you could present your guests with small bottles of local wine. Half the fun of wedding favors is presenting them in a visually appealing way, that lends some mystery as to what is inside. Decorative boxes are a fun and easy way to spark your guests’ curiosity. For an easy wedding favor, all you need is a handful of candy or a few scrumptious chocolates and a fancy box. Add some ribbon, a thank you tag and you’re done!
