I can see where this form of micro-blogging can give you several advantages from a business standpoint.
1. Speed- You can quickly keep your followers up to date even more so than your blog would. You can update via a web page, blog, cell phone. blackberry and so on.
2. Targeted traffic- This will grow as your number of followers grow.
3. Viral marketing- Creating a twit about yourself or your business can quickly take on a life of it's own to your followers and to their followers and so on.
4. Sell more thru branding. This allows you to build your credibility over time which can increase your website and blog visitors where you sell your products.
5. Promote your blog- When you do a worthwhile blog posts you can promote it on Twitter.
