Why Critical Illness Insurance Is So Important

Planning for poor health in the future is hard to do especially when you are healthy but that is the purpose of insurance cover; fortunately, the benefits of critical illness insurance are being experienced by many people who have seen this make a big difference just when they needed it. Providing financial peace of mind for your family by taking out protection for a mere few dollars each week, does not seem as important to most of us as having that luxury cup of coffee every day during lunch.

Unfortunately, despite longer lives, we are not generally healthier and insurance providers now routinely offer cover in their policies as there is a reasonably high probability of contracting a serious condition.

Research has shown that men are more likely to contract a serious condition than women with a figure of twenty percent before the age of 65. For women, this figure is slightly lower with only one in six being affected by before retirement.

Studies have shown that our reluctance to arrange a critical illness insurance policy is our inherent belief that nothing bad will happen. The main reason critical illness cover is to protect mortgage repayments and this is why insurance companies will normally offer it as part of a mortgage agreement.

These days increasing numbers of people decide to use the Internet to arrange their insurance plans and more recently cover for critical illness has also become available. However, this is an area which is still developing and even now, problems occur owing to the nature of the policy type trying to be arranged. The main reason for this is the requirement by insurance providers to have the applicant take a medical examination before they issue cover. A person who is forced to speak to someone about claiming on their critical illness insurance plan, wants to know they will show some empathy when they call.

Some groups of individuals fall into high risk categories like those who smoke for example and can be expected to pay more for their cover. Smoking is considered extremely hazardous to your health but other factors must be considered as well because you may have a dangerous job or pastime, you may be aging or already suffer with poor health.

However, the purpose of applying for critical illness insurance protection is to make sure that even if a terminal illness is diagnosed, surgery is required or even a period of unemployment, that benefits will be forthcoming to cover living expenses. Anyone that cares about their family and what could happen to them in the event of a serious medical condition arising should take out this type of insurance if for no other reason than peace of mind.
