Why herbal insectisides are better than commercial.
Louise Tenney MH (master herbalist) wrote in her book "Today's Herbal Health" in the Environmental Poisoning section, page 275"They (insecticides) can cause cancer, are toxic to a growing fetus, damage reproductive organs. Can harm children. One botanical that could be useful in killing insects and other small pests is bayberry. According to Healing Remedies by Norman Shealy MD a combination of an orange with cloves stuck in it can act as an effective pesticide too. Cloves by themselves can be helpful in this regard too. Plus the rather spicy scent can be used as a room freshener. Its antibacterial too. So it can get rid of harmful bacteria.Orange oil's been known to be a natural killer of insects and other similar pests. Geranium" possesses pest killing properties too. The source for the previous information is "Professional's Handbook for Complementary and Alternative Medicines" by C.W. Feltrow and Juan R.Avila, both Pharm D. Garlic is effective too. Some vegetables naturally repel household pests too. Some of these are broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, onions. I think its the anti oxidant phytochemicals in them. Phyto refers to plants. Its their natural way of protection. There are many herbal sources for getting rid of bugs and related pests. The one thing in common in them is they are a much safer method than most regular insecticides. Pest control products bought in drug stores, super stores like Walmart, K Mart etc can contain chemicals that can be carcinogenic. Carcinogenic means it can cause cancer. Some of these found in US pesticides include toxaphene, hexochlorbenzene. I know that according to the American Cancer Society and the Leukemia, Lymphoma Society benzene is definitely a proven link to leukemia. Mirex, arsenic, dichlorpropene and others. For more info go to International Agency for Research on Carcinogens. www.iarc.fr/
