Your Top 5 web design mistakes

Your Top 5 web design mistakes

1) Blocks of text

Avoid huge amounts of text.

Using a lot of quality content (text) is great and will attract a
large readership, but you need to break it down into smaller
paragraphs.

Shorter blocks with more focused paragraphs is the best way to go.

Ensure you use headlines, subheads, bullet points and indents also.
Don't forget about having well positioned graphics and pictures
throughout out the content.

2) Clear the clutter from the website

Don't make your readers and visitors have to find the content
through a maze of advertisements, banners and pop up ads.

Nothing puts people off more (and speeds up the back button click)
like a website of blatant ads. You may have great content but you
will turn people away unless you remove all the clutter.

Have some well-positioned ads, that don't intrude. And always
include them in relevant sections so they offer value to a reader.

Don't distract readers with "in your face advertising".

3) Navigation problems

When some comes to your website, ensure that its obvious where you
want them to go, or what you want them to read.

If you are using long form sales copy this is achieved through the
transition and obvious down-scrolling design of the site.

But for a more universal website, you need a clear navigation menu.
Make it obvious and clear to the reader. It should be prominent and
intuitive. No need to be too fancy here.

4) No contact information

You want people to get to know you right? And you want to turn a
reader into a subscriber and customer, but so many websites have no
contact information!

Many people want to call you or at least know that you have a
number and physical address. Ensure that this is in place.

5) Privacy policy

Most people online are most concerned about spam. If you want
readers to sign up to your newsletter then you need to convince
them you are NOT a spammer.

The best way is to have a personal privacy policy, with clear
indication of what you will and will not do with their email
address. This gives the reader a more positive experience.

Ensure that you include a privacy policy on your website.

To tie up...

Put these 5 tips into place and you will remove a lot of the common
mistakes that prevent your business growing. If you already have
these 5 tips mastered then see where you can improve and enhance
your visitor experience further.

There is always room for improvement.
